Outing

Well in the spirit of getting out there and practicing skills, a group is going to get together and try our hand at winter camping. February 5th we will be setting up camp at the Belva Lake Deer recreation area. I am looking forward to not only practicing my skills but also meeting up with some local people. I recently did a small day hike where I had planned to light a fire and cook lunch. That did not happen. I could not get the fire to light to save my life. Back to the drawing board. I had wanted to blog about it, but suffice it to say there was way to much cursing to write about it here. Now I need to learn about the trees we have here in Iowa. The is differences between hard and soft wood and what will burn well and what will not. I am still hoping that we can get some dialogue going with fellow Iowans.
